CIEE is a nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization that transforms lives and builds bridges between individuals and nations through study abroad and international exchange experiences that help people develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. The  Academic Coordinator will assist in co-curricular planning and development. The position is responsible for a mix of administrative tasks as follows: instructor support, academic advising and administrative work. The Academic Coordinator reports to the Academic Director in Paris and also works in close collaboration with the CIEE Academic Affairs and Enrollment teams based in Portland, Maine.

Instructor Support

·       Observe courses and offer constructive feedback to improve instructional quality and ensure the successful delivery of established learning objectives

·       Provide assistance to instructors with administrative paperwork, course evaluations, grade submission, technical equipment and additional reports necessary to fulfill the terms of teaching contracts. These can include technical and pedagogical support in hybrid courses

 

·       Regularly review course sites in the learning management system, Canvas, and syllabi prior to the start of instruction, to ensure that courses - and instructors - are prepared to meet the learning objectives

 

Co-curricular Planning and Development

·       Identify venues for co-curricular visits for hybrid and non-hybrid courses; advise faculty on integrating co-curriculars into course learning objectives and activities, in coordination with the academic director

·       Assist with the design and implementation of the academic components for custom and faculty-led programs, where necessary

 

Academic Advising and Administrative Support

·       Assist the Academic Director in the analysis of pre-registration data and with student advising at the beginning of and during each instructional term

·       Offer academic, and where appropriate, professional guidance to students through regular office hours

·       Develop and run study skills workshops during the Open Campus semesters, which will provide guidance to students on how to conduct research, prepare for assignments and participate constructively in the classroom environment

·       Track and code expenses related to course instruction and materials

·       Participate in the emergency staff-on-duty telephone rotation system

·       Assist the Academic Director in collecting syllabi and planning registration with host institution partners prior to each instructional term

·       Guide students through the orientation and registration process at host institution partners

·       Oversee the French language placement of students registered in those courses

·       Other duties as assigned.

Skills :

·       Teaching experience – Ideally minimum two years teaching in a university environment with a student-focused approach. Demonstrated teaching experience to U.S. college students.

·       Organization - Ability to reconcile statistics and handle multiple ongoing tasks and prioritize within a complex administrative environment

·       Communication with students - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

·       Communication with faculty – Ability to communicate effectively with adjunct faculty, some of them senior scholars of standing

·       Flexibility - Must be flexible and able to respond quickly to changing circumstances. Ability to work some weekends and evenings, as required

·       Punctuality - ability to complete detail-oriented tasks on time without sacrificing accuracy or quality

·       Technology - strong computer skills and the ability to learn new programs quickly (Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, learning management systems, student registration systems, etc.)

Qualifications :

·       Education - Master´s degree

 

·       Language - Fluency in English and French

Conditions :

Ability to work some weekends and evenings, as required

Sharing of emergency phone duty, on a staff rotation basis
