Founded in 1981, Paris College of Art (PCA) is a private university in Paris, France. The university is a US degree granting institution of higher learning and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). PCA offers an interdisciplinary education for students coming from 50 different countries, and awards Bachelor’s (BFA), and Master’s (MA and MFA) degrees as well as study abroad, certificate, and summer programs. Additional information is available at www.paris.edu.

 

We are now looking for faculty to teach a course titled The Art of Code.

 

This intensive course will meet one day per week, preferably Thursdays, from 10am to 1pm, and again from 2pm to 5pm, starting the week of September 2, over the course of 7 weeks. The selected candidate will also be expected to be present for 4 hours for final critiques during the last week of classes (the week of December 9). The course is taught in English.

Course Description 

 

The Art of Code provides an introduction to programming for artists and designers who are willing learn and use it as a form of creative expression. Students will explore generative art, 3D printing, flow-based programming, web as a medium in art, data visualization, and generative performances. The majority part of the course will be in a lab form where students gain hands-on experience with tools and software. Students are expected to start small projects during the course and finalize them as assignments. The course includes a final project that students will select one work from previous assignments and develop it further.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

Upon successful completion of the course, a student should be able to:

 

- Understand and experience creative coding as a field in the context of art

- Develop knowledge to use generative coding as a form of self-expression

- Define, design and create their own projects using the techniques presented in this course 

Skills :

Candidates interested in the teaching position should hold a Master level degree or higher and prove previous teaching experience in the field.

Must be authorized to work in the EU.

Conditions :

part-time contract, 15 weeks.
