Position Overview
Paris College of Art is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, vibrant, and supportive environment for its diverse student body. The Assistant Director of Student Life is a key figure in enhancing the student experience by overseeing a variety of student services, activities, and support initiatives. This role is essential in creating a welcoming campus community that values diversity, inclusion, and the uniqueness of every individual. The Assistant Director will exemplify integrity, care, compassion, and respect in all interactions and will actively contribute to strategies that promote student retention and overall satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
- Oversee the Student Life Office, including the supervision of the Student Life Counselor, Resident Assistants, and CAPs.
- Provide leadership in the development and long-term planning of activities and programs such as Orientation, Open Houses, and Passport to Paris.
- Train and manage Resident Assistants, ensuring they foster a supportive residential environment and adhere to college policies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with housing partners to ensure quality student accommodations and effectively address housing-related issues.
- Collaborate with academic departments to ensure seamless student services and improve operational efficiency.
- Oversee the Student Life Budget
Student Support for Housing and Administration
- Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, banks, and housing agencies to support student needs.
- Advise and assist students with obtaining student visas and *carte de séjour*, and provide support with other French administrative processes such as applying for CAF and setting up utilities.
- Manage student data and health insurance records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
Extra-curricular Student Activities and Student Government
- Provide strategic support and guidance to student organizations and clubs to foster a vibrant student community.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate new student orientations and ongoing activities throughout the academic year to create a welcoming campus environment and support student retention.
- Supervise the student government, mentoring student leaders and facilitating effective communication between students and administration.
- Maintain and manage the master student activities calendar
Partnerships and Collaborations
- Strengthen and maintain the relationship with partner school Emerson College, ensuring effective collaboration and the successful implementation of joint programs and initiatives.
- Act as a liaison with other partner institutions to enhance student opportunities and institutional collaboration.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in organizing and executing on-campus events such as bi-annual orientations and open houses.
- Work closely with the Student Success Committee to develop and implement strategies aimed at improving student retention and engagement.
Skills :
- Proven experience in student services, higher education administration, or a similar role ;
- Strong organizational and communication skills ;
- Fluent in English and professionnal French ;
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously ;
- Experience in supervising staff or student leaders and managing partnerships with external organizations ;
- The selected candidate must be authorized to work in France (EU nationality or a valid work visa/residence permit).
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
Other :
- Full-time permanent contract (CDI), Monday to Friday ;
- Salary based on experience;
- Occasional remote work allowed;
- Meal vouchers covered at 60% by the company;
- Health insurance covered at 50% by the company;
- 50% reimbursement of the legal Pass Navigo/Vélib;
- Access to the American Library in Paris;
- Opportunity to attend 2 courses per semester free of charge;
- 6 weeks of paid vacation (2 weeks in summer and 2 weeks during Christmas).
