Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Student Life designs, implements, and manages cultural programming and community service opportunities for students participating in St. John's study abroad programs on the Paris Campus. The Coordinator assists the Associate Director in program implementation and organization. The Coordinator reports to the Associate Director and has no leadership or supervision roles.

 

Essential Functions:

Work with the Associate Director in order to create and implement an exciting events program that emphasize engagement with local culture and relate to course material. Multiple repetitions may be needed as the number of students increases.

Design and facilitate weekly local excursions in Paris to introduce students to the history and culture of the city.

Design and lead regional excursions in France, inclusive of a weeklong semester trip. Plan for all logistical details and educational content, in close collaboration with the Coordinator of Academics and Program Development.

Provide a thorough orientation to all students upon arrival, with a full explanation of expectations, programming, and rules related to the students' stay in Paris.

Work to ensure the health, safety and general welfare of all students on St. John's program in keeping with protocols and guidelines established by St. John's.

Facilitate the Cultural Mentoring Program with the Associate Director.

Manage communication through Campus Facebook page and Instagram account.

Assist the Coordinator of Academics and Program Development with summer and short-term program planning and execution as needed.

Track expenses, file receipts and administering program funds within budget and according to protocols established by the Office of Business Affairs.

Coordinate payroll tracking of faculty, guest lecturers, and tour guides for academic lectures, museum visits, etc.

Support and manage the Vincentian community service program (Academic Service-Learning and other voluntary community service initiatives), maintaining relationships with local service partners and ensuring student attendance. Track and report community service hours to the Vincentian Institute for Social Action in Queens

Serve as first point-of-contact in the office for students with questions or concerns.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, participate in daily operations of the Paris Campus including program administration, health and safety, crisis communications, and reporting.

Serve as part of a 24/7 on-call student emergency response rotation. Coordinate response to such emergencies as needed, in a manner consistent with SJU's emergency response protocols.

Qualifications :

 

Required Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree in related field.

·         1-2 years related experience in the study abroad field.

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

·         Master’s in related field.

·         3-5 years related experience in the study abroad field.

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

·         Authorized to work in the Schengen area.

·         Fluent in French and English.

·         Ability to perform public speaking to large groups.

·         Experience with educational systems in both France and the US.

·         Flexible work schedule.

Work Environment

This position involves working both on campus and outdoors. The professional office environment involves the use of standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copiers, multimedia equipment, etc.

 

Physical Demands

No particular physical demands are required other than the ability to walk for extend periods of time while on trips/site visits with students.

 

Environmental Conditions

The ability to perform work duties outdoors in occasionally adverse weather conditions.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-time position of 35 hours per week, as per French CBA. Office hours are Monday to Friday with occasional evening/weekend/public holiday worked due to programmatic needs or emergencies.

 

Travel

Occasional field trips in France and travel to the New York and Rome campuses may be needed.
