Responsibilities :

The Student affairs coordinator will monitor student welfare and actively support student development and success through programming, engagement, and comprehensive advising.

The Student Affairs coordinator will report to the Head of Student Life. 

 

Student Support and Well-Being 

Maintain daily contact with students to advise, assist, and generally mentor them through the study abroad process 

Mediate misunderstandings or conflicts, and provide solutions to students experiencing difficulties  

Monitor student welfare, advise, council, arbitrate and serve as resource for additional physical or mental care – including accompanying students to care giving facilities

Foster an environment that is welcoming, affirming, and empowering for students of all backgrounds and assist students in building community each semester 

Develop and implement programs focused on well-being, health, and safety 

 

Intercultural Competence 

Cultivate relationships with the local community that advance the well-being of diverse individuals and communities 

Promote and develop real connections between IES Abroad students and the host student community 

 

Student Life 

Play a support role to the Housing coordinator in managing students' issues by liaising, mediating and coordinating different parties (students, host families, housing providers, cleaning crews, RAs, etc.)  

Administer student health insurance issues (to include both CISI and/or national health plans); liaise with Chicago regarding insurance questions, acting as resource for students and medical care facilities 

Help plan and lead orientation sessions related to Health, Safety, Intercultural Competence, Diversity or ENGAGE program  

Help develop, organize and supervise field trips 

Skills :

Experience and competence in mental health field preferred

Strong knowledge of conflict management and nonviolent communication 

Strong communication, Interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team or autonomously 

Ability to contribute to the well-being of diverse individuals and communities  

Must be fluent in French and English

Strong organizational skills 

Must be preauthorized to work in France

Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree required - Master's degree preferred

Experience with both French and US educational systems

Other :

Conditions :

Occasional overnight field trip with students outside of Paris; 

Adaptable schedules according to program needs

Emergency on-call duty: participate in emergency phone rotation and other emergency duties
