Description du poste : 

The Student Life Assistants will assist the Student life coordinators and actively support student development and success during their time abroad

The Student Life assistants will report to the Head of Student Life and Student Life Coordinators. 


Missions et activités du poste :  


Student Life 

Play a support role to the Housing coordinator and Student Affairs Coordinator in managing students' issues by liaising, mediating and coordinating different parties (students, health partners, host families, housing providers, etc.)  

Administer student health insurance issues (to include both CISI and/or national health plans); liaise with IES Chicago office regarding insurance questions, acting as resource for students and medical care facilities 

Participate or conduct orientation sessions related to Student Life including but not limited to Housing, Health, Safety, Intercultural Competence, Diversity or ENGAGE program  

Help develop, organize and supervise field trips 

Help students with Visa process


Student Support and Well-Being 

Maintain daily contact with students to advise, assist, and generally mentor them through the study abroad process 

Help mediate misunderstandings or conflicts, and provide solutions to students experiencing difficulties  

Monitor student welfare, and serve as resource for additional physical or mental care – including accompanying students to care giving facilities

Foster an environment that is welcoming, affirming, and empowering for students of all backgrounds and assist students in building community each semester 

Implement programs focused on well-being, health, and safety 



Regularly visit the student housing in order to cultivate relationships with hosts, providers, staff and organization 

Clearly communicate IES Abroad housing policy and expectations to students, host families and housing partners

Complete apartment inventory as well as check-in and check-out forms in terms of cleanliness and possible damage before students’ arrival and departure.

Organize and implement the cleaning of student units at the end of each session or when necessary


Intercultural Competence 

Cultivate relationships with the local community that advance the well-being of diverse individuals and communities 

Promote and develop real connections between IES Abroad students and the host student community 

Advise and assist IES Abroad students in their integration into the local community


Skills :

Strong communication, Interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team or autonomously 

Ability to contribute to the well-being of diverse individuals and communities  

Strong organizational skills

Notions of conflict management 

Experience and competence in Student Affairs field preferred

Qualifications :

• Must be fluent in French and English

Must be preauthorized to work in France

Other :

Conditions :

Occasional overnight field trip with students outside of Paris; 

Adaptable schedules according to program needs

Emergency on-call duty: participate in emergency phone rotation and other emergency duties
