Responsibilities :

Primary Purpose:

Based at the Middlebury Center (Centre Madeleine) in Paris, the Student Life Officer works with the Director and Associate Director to organize and monitor the overall experience of School in France students in Paris, both undergraduates and graduates, strives to promote full linguistic and cultural integration of all students, and guides students toward independence and comfort within their new cultural context.

 

Orientation for incoming students:

  • Leads sessions on health matters, housing and insurance, visa validation procedures, center use / guidelines, etc.
  • Oversees online visa application process for all students required to validate their long stay student visas or to extend their stay (in communication with the International Programs and Off Campus Study (IPOCS) office at Middlebury).
  • Creates and distributes School in France student ID cards (in Paris, Bordeaux, and Poitiers).

 

Life in Paris / Student Services:

  • Serves as first point of contact for all Paris students (undergraduate and graduate) for all non-academic / practical matters: banking, transportation, communication, insurance, etc.
  • Helps students to integrate in-class learning with out-of-class activities in Paris (language partnerships, clubs, sports, etc.).
  • Helps organize and participates in program activities, receptions, and excursions in Paris.
  • Monitors students' linguistic and cultural progress and facilitates students’ participation in program-sponsored activities.

 

Health, Safety and Crisis Response: 

  • Advises students on health-related matters: accompanying students to the hospital, to the police station, etc., in case of emergency.
  • Manages student health and takes an active role in assuring the well-being of all students.
  • Creates weekly logs of student independent travel.
  • Participates in the emergency phone tree (during workday). 

 

Housing:

  • Communicates regularly with Host Families in Paris during homestay placement process.
  • Assigns housing in foyers and follows up on students’ applications and final placements.
  • Monitors housing and resolves all problems that students may have in a timely manner in coordination with Host Families in Paris and/or foyers.
  • Maintains and updates information on all foyers and the list of housing resources for graduate students.  

 

Administration:    

  • Coordinates student printing at the center.
  • Manages office supplies, supervises cleaning personnel, and assists the Director in the maintenance of facilities (repairs, annual inspections, etc.). 
  • Handles petty cash and runs occasional errands (post office, bank, etc.).
  • Assists the Director and Associate Director in managing and/or planning the site programs (Bordeaux and Poitiers), and with various administrative tasks (reporting, budget, anticipated student expenses, etc.), as needed.

 

General: 

  • Shows initiative and works independently, carrying out tasks in the best interest of the program and the students.
  • Coordinates and cooperates with other office staff in creating a pleasant, efficient, and well-organized office atmosphere and organization.
  • Fulfills any other duties assigned by the Director or the Associate Director in any other activities and aspects of the program abroad.

Skills :

 

  • Computer and internet skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point).
  • In-country living and travel experience both in the U.S. and in France.
  • Student services or similar experience preferred.
  • Cultural sensitivity; experience studying/working in highly diverse environments

Qualifications :

 

  • Licence/BA required, but master’s degree preferred. 
  • Fluency in French and English.

Other :

 

  • Must be authorized to work legally in France.  

Conditions :

Contract:

French CDI (two-month trial period). Full time (35 hrs./week). 

 

Annual Gross Salary:

25,000-27,000 € according to experience and tickets repas.
