Re-entry

Click here to download the presentation given by Eero Jesurun at the annual meeting in Bordeaux, March 2017, on re-entry sessions.

Eero Jesurun is the Director for CIEE´s Study Center in Madrid, Spain since 2003.

Eero oversees the onsite administration and programming for a variety of programs with participants ranging from 14 to 84 years old: High School semester, Gap year, Volunteer, Teach in Spain, Custom Faculty-led, Internship and Semester/Summer Study Abroad programs. Eero holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and degrees from Georgetown University´s School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC. He was born and raised on the island of Curaçao, formerly the Netherlands Antilles.

During one study abroad experience (before cellphones and emails), he participated in the IAU College program in Aix-en-Provence as a beginner French student. Eero became a bad example for study abroad when he “forgot” to let his host family know that he was travelling to Paris for a long weekend. He had an amazing time in the City of Lights, but then lost the house keys, passport, money and train ticket. Ultimately, he “hitchhiked” on a train to Marseille and slept on a bench outside the train station during the night where someone took his shoes. He has come to reflect that “what glitters or glows isn’t always gold.” Since then he has tried to be smarter about being adventurous, flexible and independent.
